Hi!

I am a political scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Frankfurt, and an Associate Fellow at Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). I live in Berlin, Germany.

I was a Visiting Student Researcher at UC Berkeley’s Political Science Department from 01–08/2023, a Junior Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, University of Oxford from 10–12/2022, and a Visiting Researcher at the Global Governance Research Unit at WZB Berlin Social Science Center from 12/2021–03/2022.

You can find my current CV here.

Research interests

My primary research interest is economic sanctions. I examine the effect of sanctions imposition on human rights and democracy, as well as how the regime type and state capacity of the targeted government shape the effects of sanctions. I am also interested in the drivers of public support for sanctions and under which conditions the general public and decisionmakers are more or less likely to support using them. This and other work of mine examines norms in international politics.

A second broad interest of mine is empirical social science research design. I use survey experiments and unexpected events data, as well as causal inference techniques for observational data. I am also interested in tools for knowledge aggregation and cumulation in the social sciences, including replication, extension, and systematic review.
